OUR WAY FOR ANALOG FILM EMULATION
When digital looks like film
Weddings: the analogue mood is one of most fashionable styles, but in our experience the best way to get this special and warm feeling is to digitally emulate it, rather then working with old cameras from the pre-digital era, due to their fundamental limits: films are expensive and extremely under-performing in low light. Otherwise: it’s impossible to check the work in real time with analog cameras, it’s important not to forget this…
There is no doubt that the best results came from digital tecnology.
So, in this revival of analog warmth (the comparison between a film and a tube amp is a good one) among the winners there is the VSCO presets production for computer editing programs.
In this post you can find a large sequence from one single wedding, the real way to test the quality of a photographer.
Files posted are post-produced using two presets from VSCO Film Pack One.
The result is a digital work which feels as if ut’s shot on film.
… This way 🙂
- VSCO for photography “connoisseurs”: we emulated a Kodak Portra 160 ASA (underexposed and overdeveloped) for color images, and the mythical HP5 Ilford for B&W.
- VSCO for… “dummies”: simply enjoy the warmth of the images in this gallery!
PS We love these kind of photo shoots, we call them “Their Duet”!

First question coming up after scrolling these pictures:
is the couple directly asking you this kind of pictures, or are they simply accetting and liking your artistic proposal?
I mean. Is it a personal challenge you are carrying on, or are customers aware of what they are achieving, when they hire you on their wedding day?
You have opened an interesting discussion. You are asking about one of our workhorses.
I open a new Project for every new couple. So, we can put together a plan which includes the itinerary, the style (candid, with direction, ..."hipster" and so on...). Also, I've a lot of different ways to postproduce the digital raw files, my clients can choose from different samples I send them before the final work.
For this service I've used the VSCO preset I name in the post, but I have hundreds, including the mines.
Congratulations for both the framing and the emulation of the analogue film.
